Christmas is coming!

This morning, as the snow began to fall, the children practised the carol ‘Christmas Calypso’.  After their singing they were rewarded with a snowy break time.

Christmas Cards

Today the the children have been making Christmas cards for care homes and the elderly at Christmas. They have really enjoyed wanting to share the Christmas spirit.

Funny Faces!

Year 5 have completed their art topic of Funny Faces. Throughout the term they have experimented with drawing and sculpting techniques, inspired by famous artists.

Maths Perimeter Investigation

Today in maths we looked at the different shapes we could make using straws, and found their perimeter. We found it really interesting to see which shapes we could make, and who could make the biggest shape.

Remembrance wreaths

Following our Armistice Day service, the Pinchbeck East wreaths have now been placed at the village memorial. Thank you to the children who very kindly and thoughtfully laid them.

Children in Need

After watching Joe Wicks complete his fantastic 24 hour workout for Children in Need, Year 5 went outside to take part in their own fitness routine. After jogging, star jumps and Spider-Man lunges, they were all warmed up and ready for the day ahead!

Wolf Brother Drama

Today we read chapter 8 from our class novel ‘Wolf Brother’. We had to plot the scenes in the chapter, and use this to act out the scene from the book. As it was set around a campfire, we took our drama outside to the nature area, and as a whole class brought the book to life.

Remembrance 2020

Today the children took part in a Remembrance service in the school Bible Garden. They recited ‘In Flanders Fields’, and there was the traditional laying of the wreaths. The whole school then observed a 2 minutes silence, and discussed service and sacrifice within their classes.

The House with Chicken Legs

Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed our term one shared reading book: The Nowhere Emporium by Ross McKenzie and they wrote some very positive reviews.

We have only started reading this book today but, already, the children are excited to learn where the house will travel.

English

Our new book in English for the start of Term 2 is Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver. The children have just been introduced to the characters that appear in this Stone Age quest.

Today, the children have been studying the characteristics of Wolf Cub and deciding whether he will be a suitable guide for the journey ahead. They used charcoal to create an image of the wolf.
